PLC Thermistor Program

07/11/2011 1:43 PM

Somebody tell me if I have the right idea here:

I have a logarithmic equation for the resistance-temperature relationship of a thermistor (gotten from a Matlab polyfit command).

Now I buy a PLC with a co-processor card and program my ladder logic to read the voltage across the thermistor and give me an analog signal I can work with.

Do I have this right?

In theory, yes. In practice, who knows without some more specific info on your equipment.

But that's what the sales brochure says. All that I have to do is buy their product, wiggle my fingers on the keyboard and presto! The Z transform converges inside the region of convergence circle! Oh, wait a minute. Isn't that supposed to be outside the circle?

As Flo said to Eddie, "He's flipping out. He's gone beyond audience comprehension. Oh Atlantis."

"Whaaaa! What can I say about this wonderful elixir."

Most PLCs can deal with the logic you require, but not all have an onboard analog input. You may have to buy an analog input card with the range capable of reading your thermistor output voltage. You will then have to scale your input information to achieve your output requirements and provide an offset to set your zero.

Thanks, I know I did not offer much but I only wanted to know if I was looking at the problem right.

I have a 1983 Mercedes Benz 300 Turbo Diesel and I have been tossing around finishing the vegetable oil set-up installed on it. Vegetable oil has to be warmed up to detonate, and you don't want to leave it in the pump. So I have been thinking of some control schemes using the coolant to heat up the grease but not get it too hot.
