Transformer Neutral Grounding

07/13/2011 10:09 AM

Some power transformer neutral(Star) are earthed with Neutral Grounding Resistance(NGR) and others are directly grounded. What is the logic behind it and what should be the value of the NGR?

Generally Low Volatge Winding Neutrals of Transformers are Solidly Earthed and Medium Voltage Winding Neutrals are earthed through an impedance. To understand the logic, please attend to our training programme on Earthing.

The value of NGR is: Phase Voltage of the system to be earthed / desired earth fault current.
