Specification for G.I. Conduit?

07/21/2011 2:30 AM

Dear All,

This is with reference to Electrical G.I. Conduit as per IS:1239

In IS conduits are classified as Light, Medium & Heavy Duty.

However, the same is also denoted as Light (Class-A), Medium (Class-B) and Heavy (Class-C)..

I want to know, whether this class are synonymous of respective type conduit (L,M&H) or indicates some other properties of G.I. conduit pipe (like composition etc.)

Is there anything like Heavy Duty (Class-B) pipe conduit ????

Plz clarify my doubt it's urgent……

Your use of the alphabet to place specs on products could mean different things in different parts of the world. Does use no good unless we know where in the world those classifications come from. Just as all that GI stands for is galvanized iron. Is IS-1239 specific to GI or to all conduit? What country is the IS-1239 standard from?

In IS -1239 IS stands for "Indian Standard" followed throughout the country.

Classification of G.I. conduit pipe based on above standard is Light, Medium & Heavy Duty.

However, I am also finding that, From where this Class-A.B & C Classification came?? Is there any international standard specified the same ?????

by the way thanx for reply.....
