Expanding/Contracint Noryl 731

08/03/2011 4:12 PM

I have an application where we pressfit Noryl 731 unto a SS Bushing. These things are incredibly difficult to take off when we need to replace them. I am wondering if there are any simple applications like an ice bath or a heat gun that would assist in taking off the Noryl.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you

If the Noryl is inside the SS bushing, cool the plastic/heat the metal.

I don't understand you. You said," pressfit Noryl 731 unto a SS Bushing".

If you had said," pressfit Noryl 731 onto a SS Bushing", or said, " pressfit Noryl 731 into a SS Bushing", I would have a much clearer picture of the problem.

My guess is he meant "into", as if he meant onto he'd more likely have said "...difficult to take out....", not "....difficult to take off...."

I think he meant "unto", as in "do unto SS as you would have Noryl do unto you"

Or perhaps "Render into SS that which SS's, render unto God....."

Do you really need to use GE thermoplastic Noryl? What about shrink tube from Insulboot? They make reels of the stuff rated for 12kV and above. What is your voltage that you are working with? Insulboot makes custom boots as well.

We purchase our Glastic (some peopel call it redboard) sheets from RedSeal and machine them to size.

Make sure you have no condensation around that Noryl, it has a tendency to crack, spider crack and other problems related to that plastic. So install heaters and make sure they are checked on a regular basis on a maintenance schedule. We do not use Noryl anymore unless we have to, the heat shrink tube works well and it is easy to remove and put on.
