Cone-Cylinder Junction, Radius or No?

08/10/2011 4:38 AM

Dear friends,

I would like to know if there is mandatory requirement in Code to mandate the use of radius construction for cone to cylinder junction.

It seems that we can choose to fabricate the cone using radius or to make it straight only.

Your kind opinion is appreciated.

Regards

Could you post some pictures? one of each design. (I am making an assumption you have access to 3D CAD)

What type of material is flowing through the chutes?

Do you have to worry about the chute plugging?

What type of Code are you talking about?

Remember, better information means better answers.

It seems like I remember seeing cone shapes coming off of old train towers located on the side of the tracks,One time i noticed that there were long elbow shaped tin pipes swinging out of a big coop grain shoot. Cones could be made by just welding triangular shaped tin pieces together it would be fairly easy.

But I guess you could use another idea; a combination of thick canvas grommetted to tin so that it woiuld move in and out like an accordian or like the old antique fire starters that squeeze in and out to help force air out, only of course on a larger scale.ds

It would be useful to know what Code you are referring to, as different codes apply to different uses. Is there a material flowing through this joint? Where is the object to be located - this helps define the code producing agency. If you know what code is controlling, please state it. If not, please indicate why you think a code is controlling. Or are you asking if "good practice" is mandating a specific choice?
