Air Compressor Motor

08/29/2011 7:22 PM

I have a dual voltage single phase capacitor start/capacitor run motor. There is a three terminal klixon mounted inside and a centrifugal switch the wires come to a connection board mounted in the motor. They all are not connected to the board. they are not numbered just colored. black, blue, orange, yellow, brown, purple from the klixon purple & brown. Can anyone give me a wiring diagram for this motor?

Does the motor have a manufacturer's nameplate?

It's hard to say just like that. You should know what is the number of leads from the windings and how they are connected (try to examine the ohmic resistance between them). Maybe this picture will be helpfull.

This is a general circuit drawing for a typical single phase capacitor start and capacitor run motor.

The Line and neutral point are shown. the others will need to be identified on your motor. Use it and find them logically.

I had the same problem with a 40 year old Sears Craftsmen table Saw. Klixon no longer made my start contactor. I cut the the top off with a thin rotary tool blade. The contact had welded. I cleaned up the contact, glued the top back on and added a tie wrap around it. The saw runs like a teenager.
