Removing Silver From NO-Pb Solder Paste?

09/01/2011 2:26 PM

I am trying to remove the silver and copper content from recycled NO Lead solder paste. It is made up of .3% silver, .7% copper and the rest is mostly tin. Can I heat it to its lowest melting point (tin obviously) and remove the solids. However, the copper and silver are such a small part that this may be difficult. Any ideas?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Your solder recovery attempt will not work. Solders are an alloy of the various metals and the silver (or any other metal) will not separate by differential melting of the paste. (Look up eutechtic alloys on the net)

I do need to ask one question from your sign in. Look in your personal messages when you see this.
