Single Phase Transformer Parallel Operation

09/05/2011 9:15 AM

i would just like to ask if it is possible to combine 2 single phase transformers in parallel operation supplying a single phase load? the transformers are to be connected on a single phase primary line and will have an output of single phase secondary line. is this possible?

Yes its a very common thing to do.

As long as your primary and secondary voltages are the same they will work together as a larger transformer.

Ideally two or more identical transformers should be used though.

You need to find the polarity of secondary side of the transformer inorder to share the load.

should the transformers be of the same polarity or different?

thanks

use proper rated voltmeter and measure for zero volts.

These are transformers...they are polarized by the taps and connections to the primary and secondary.

They are intrinsically the "same" and "different" polarities.
