Motor starters Power ranges

09/08/2011 6:43 AM

Hi,

I just need to get the statement in NFPA where they specify the motors starters types according to their nominal power. (Example: Direct Online from 1 to 10 HP, etc.). I have the NFPA collection but can't find it.

Thank you in advance.

I'm not surprised it doesn't give ratings. DOL can go in to 1000's of HP if the supply is robust.

There is no statement like that in the NEC (NFPA electrical code), they don't care. The need for reduced voltage starting varies by utility and even neighborhood. There is no national standard.

I think you are talking about NEMA starter size. It is not defined in NFPA. It is called in NEMA motor starter size. See this link: http://www.communitymotorsinc.net/nema_starters.htm
