09/10/2011 3:21 AM

What happened when new standing fan stop working without any odor that indicated the coil or rotor is burnt out?

Broken wire, loose connector, loss of main power, infant mortality are the four things that immediately come to my mind. Sometimes you just have to face the fact that if you buy things at the lowest price, you get the lowest quality.

Probably the circuit is open:

check if there is power available at the plug, wire end, switch/ switches, if a speed control with condensers is applied, one of these condensers or switches could fail, and last but not least: vibrations could have vibrated a screw loose, or a wire in the motor.

When that thing is new, bring it back and replace it- so let the vendor deal with it.

First thing first -check wiring and switch*,are fan blades touching the guard.Try oiling. If this does not work ,there must be some mechanical fault -like bearing jam,thread/hair** wound on shaft etc.

* with due respect ,it happens some time,**-it is common in India-(ladies with long hair !!)

You did specify "new" item.

I've had a few new appliances and power tools stop dead after just a few seconds of operation. Since I have an extensive electronics background, I had to investigate further. So far, all the failures were due to sloppy assembly resulting in a single loose or dangling internal wire connection. I restored the connection and all have been working fine for years.

IF you have enough mechanical and electrical experience to open up the device and inspect the assembly, you might find a simple problem with a simple solution.

Otherwise, take the "new" item back for replacement, warranty repair, or refund.

Have you checked that the fan is plugged in and turned on at the wall?

Sometimes the simplest and most obvious solution is overlooked.
