Engineer's Day

09/14/2011 12:28 PM

Happy Engineer's Day. In India , Engineer's Day is celebrated on 15 September every year. The day is the birthday of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya (1860-1961), an eminent Indian engineer. He served as the chief engineer during construction of Krishna Raja Sagara on the Kaveri River near Mysore . He also built many dams in the Bombay presidency (present-day Maharashtra ). The dams built by him are still functional today, a testimony to his engineering skills. To commemorate the birthday of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya, many annual events take place in India. National level organizations like The Instituitions of Engineers (India) conduct meets and events on this occasion.IEI is dedicating the 44th Engineer's Day to '"Engineering Preparedness for Disaster Mitigation"'. Youth initiatives like "Nesting Ideas" conducts nationwide events to capture engineering stories. This effort is made to identify upcoming technologies, business ideas, promote social entrepreneurship and touch the emotional part of engineers' college life which everyone misses during their lifetime.(copied from wikipedia) Do Engineer's day recognised by others or not.

Marvelous Hithuanand !, I just wish to know how to pronounce those names; it's important to me so I know how to properly thank for this and other Indian initiatives, more specifically, the recently borrowed (and renamed iMX) program, which is such a big business, reality show, I mean, altruist effort, that if they paid a fair tax for all calls, it would actually serve "its porpuse": to help relieve poverty in my country.

By the way, September 15 is our independence day.

Regards

India has a serious corruption problem, but it can't be solved by a God (or even Gods), it needs the Indian people to organise and act at the ballot box to bring about change.

It's time for an anti corruption "Gandhi" to rise up.

All my life so far, i have been proud of Bangalore. The last few years have seen many shenanigans by crooked politicians who are getting away with murder. On Sir MV's memorial day, this happened here, and should make all Bangaloreans hang their head in shame...
