Cables

09/16/2011 11:25 AM

Dear Friends,

Is thermosetting the same as xlpe?, if not what is the difference.

looking tru IEE Reg 17th Edi, BS7671, 185mmsq armoured thermoplastic, buried direct in ground, carries 243A, same size thermosetting carries 281A

Pirelli cables catalogue, BICC cables, and afew others indicate 185mmsq armoured xlpe cable in ground, current capacity ranged b/n 380-420A.

please explain and advise, i need to specify for some ongoing proj.

Regards,

Kebian

No. Thermosetting implies a liquid resin that chemically crosslinks while curing (hardening).

XLPE is irradiated thermoplastic polyethylene. It's already solid and the irradiation further increases its chemical and physical properties.

Two different processes altogether.
