Dear Sir ,

Thanx for ur reply as silicon rubber is expansive and is used where temprature is UP TO 350 degree pl suggest for Natural rubber/PBR/SBR.

The material most commonly used for a translucent appearance in shoe soles is TPU. Of course this is a "plastic" by definition but what you are refering to as "synthetic rubber" is almost by definition an elastomer which one might call by the more general name plastic - ergo TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) sort of fits the bill (TPR (thermoplastic rubber) and TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane) are both TPEs).

You will probably want Shore A of around 60 for slip resistance. Although I am not aware of this product being sold in sheet form (we use it in extrusion moulding) it is quite likely available or you may be able to source a normal PU (not thermoplastic) in sheet form that fits the bill.

If these are regarded as "plastic" your only real alternative is what used to be known as grissle rubber or crepe rubber which is fairly natural and slightly translucent - but frankly is pretty aweful outdated stuff.

TPU is what you want. PU sheeting might be OK but either way go for 60 - 65 shore A and check the wear resistance (TPU will be excellent).

Dear Sir,

Thanx for response pl note that we are making translucent rubber sheet by compression molding. Given below the formulation for the same

Natural Rubber...............60

SBR 1502....................20

PBR (GP).......................20

Zinc active....................3

Steric Acid....................1

Precipitated Silica...........35

Napthanic oil.................7

(Rubber processing oil)

Sulphar insoluble..........1.7

M.B.T.S .....................0.6

M.BT .........................0.6

d.p.g..........................0.3

Anti oxident.................1.0

D.E.G..........................2

Problem we face with this formulation is that we get blooming on surface(white color on surface) after Aging

We do not get uniform color

stickiness when u touch the sheet after some time

Do you bake it to cure or just air dry?

blooming might be caused by undercuring, you might want to add DEG upto 3phr.

non-uniformity of color - might be because of the quality of your Natural rubber. Another cause would be the uniformity of processing, temperature during cure, and the time of cure aside from having unclean processing machines during masterbatching (internal mixers and open mills).

stickiness - it's either under cure or overcure (reversion). Try adjusting the temperature and times.

you might want to check the optimum cure on your rheometer.

The best "crystal rubber" supplier I know of (for footwear) is Shin Ho out of Korea. It's actually a clear peroxide cured polybutadiene with other important ingredients including antioxidants to eliminate yellowing.

Is there a clear form of Kraton(r)? It has been a long time since I worked with that material; it was then owned by Shell Oil Company. I don't know who owns the product line now and I don't know what products are now offered by I believe that the material did have reasonably transparency.

There are a lot of transparent and translucent polyurethane synthetic "rubber" elastomers available. Contact Polyurethane Manufacturers Assoc, or put some specs in a post here on CR4. To obtain transparancy, stay away from low MW polyols like BDO, preferably stay with aliphatic diisocyanates.

PU or Silicone are only 2 options if you required translucency. Other rubbers such as neoprene, epdm, viton, NR, SBR, NBR are solid colored.
