Drill Bit

09/25/2011 8:26 PM

I am looking for a 16.3mm drill bit to drill through metal plate.

i have got a magnetic drill so drilling will not be a problem.

Please advice where i can get it from.

How thick is the plate? If thin you could use a conical drill and stop when your diameter has reached.

If thicker and need to be precise drill with 16mm and ream to 16.3 mm.

Drills can be bought with 0.1 mm steps, so also 16.3 fits in the product line.

You can also use a 16.5 mm drill after grinding it down on machine to 16.3 mm.

you buy this in tool shops or from specialized companies.

41/64 drill bit is just .001107 mm shy of what you want and is readily available. I don't know many mills or drill presses that would have a TIR that would make a difference.

How thick is the plate?

It's not important, "i have got a magnetic drill so drilling will not be a problem."

Is that what the Coyote used for holes while hunting the Road Runner?

Not a problem!

Sounds like someone is being anal about converting Imperial clearance on a 5/8 bolt.

It would be worth asking, as to get it 'exact' you are going to have to drill twice and 0.2mm is 'a nothing tolerance' in that diameter in structural steel terms.

16 and 16.5 are standard sizes. Both will drill an amount over.
