Operating Temperature Ranges For Disk Brake Calipers

09/30/2011 7:54 PM

Can anyone here give me an idea of how hot the calipers get on the front disk brakes of an average weight car under normal use?

By average weight I'm thinking in the range of about 2800 pounds (1250 kilos).

Thanks

It is like asking how much weight of a normal size barrel of water , filled to normal level will weight .

My friend, how hot it gets depends on how hard you brake, at what speed and how often !

I'm not sure why a simple question about average temps for an average car under average conditions should have proven so problematic. Fortunately Lyn provided a link which ball parks the answer so I can apply thermal coatings with a range of heat tolerance to satisfy our needs.

Thanks Lyn

I'll hijack & ask

why isn't there a rating for the braking power available?

things like diameter, the number of piston per caliper, pad material all factor in...

the natural choice would be Brake Horsepower

the temperature rating would be the number of times per minute the maximum force could be applied, without boiling the fluid...
