Ethernet Connected Loop Controllers?

10/06/2011 2:44 PM

I am looking for a new loop controller standard. Something easy to configure and test. Newport has ones which web browser can be used to read and change setpoints. The configuration would be done via configuration software running on a PC. Does anyone know of one which can all be setup, tested, and backed up with a web browser?

It all really depends on what you want to do. We are using a form of Ethernet based control system that runs in real time, not the "when it gets around to it" protocol of the Ethernet. It is EtherCAT provided by Beckhoff.

We picked this system because of how easy it was to set up a very fast data transfer rate for almost 1000 inputs and 1000 outputs. We check the status of those devices about 4 times per millisecond. Not a lot of other competitive hardware like that yet but the others are catching on. We link in to the control system with standard web browsing tools, etc. Try www.beckhoff.com for starters.
