There's an old saying that I think that you should know. "You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink."

In your case; we can lead you to the information you wish, but we cannot make you think. In answering your fractured question, there certainly will be some projects that will be good for reforestation. Many of these projects will be specifically reforestation projects. Most reforestation projects will by design be good for the environment. Occasionally though a well intentioned design can go wrong.

Nice job of rhyming.

Can you do anything with "homework"?

Yes, and your careless acts of piling probably contributed to the needless death of a tree.

I think the OP is only killing electrons, and maybe brain cells.

Well I was thinking of using the rhymes of "dork", "pork" or "fork"; but they all lead to a very off topic and insulting comment. So I decided to just let sleeping dogs lie.

For starters you get more wood, more oxygen, less CO2, less usable farm land, more termites and other bugs, more birds, more forest animals, less wind at ground level, more loggers, less prairie dogs, more hunting places but less range with your ammunition, more pollen....

I could go on all day without actually providing any useful info but you get the idea.

So, what did the Romans ever do for us..... apart from water irrigation, roads, a sanitary system, schools and modern medical procedures?

You forgot less soil erosion and water pollution in the pretty comprehensive starters list! LOL

As long as you have good biodiversity in the planted forest and intelligent tree placement to avoid soil erosion, reforestation will give you many benefits e.g. reduced soil erosion, better water absorption, reduce flooding, provide wood for cash generation, reduce CO2, clean the air, provide habitat for birds and animals, provide place for recreation and sport e.g. hunting.

The Department of Natural Resources overseas the replanting of trees for the lumber industry. They plant the the trees used for lumber using inmate labor. Inmates thin the trees cutting down the defective trees and ensuring that trees are equally spaced so that the remaining trees will grow up straight with plenty of room to get enough sun light and strangle each other from the roots and the felled trees remain to provide the nutrients for the remaining trees. After 30 or 40 years those trees are cut down for lumber and the process starts all over again. In the winter time the areas that were recently logged will have seedlings planted.

Keep in mind that inmates do all the labor and are supervised by one DNR ranger.

Two countries that have been stripped of all their forests right now are Afghanistan and Haiti. Both could use the work and the wood if you could keep them from cutting the young trees down for firewood, which is what happened to the original forests.
