Surge Counter for Surge Arrester.

Hi

For a 2 MW - three phase hydrogenerator in a powerhouse, surge arresters is kept. The number of surge arrester required will be three, and number of surge counter required will be one??

you need three surge counter ie one for each phase.

Will it be acceptable if all three outgoing leads from surge divertors are connected together and passed through the counter?.

that is what is mentioned in a manual...........that connected together and passed through the counter...........!! We are talking about 6.6 kV systems here.

Yes ,you can do that but it will the sum of fault on three phases.If you have three counter you can measure the fault on each phase ,which may help to find the frequent faulty phase and to take corrective action.
