digital ohmeter

11/01/2011 10:04 AM

Hi, I would like to know if some of you have faced with some failures with digital ohmeters. I am using a valhalla scientific 4100 - I know is old - but it was working perfect. I use it to measure low resistance values -range .5 to 40 ohms- to primary and secondary coils of electromagnetic ballast not energized. I take several resistance measurements at short intervals, beggining as quickly as possible after the instant of shutdown. The resistive values and time are extrapolated to give me the final resistance value at the end of the test.

During this "beggining as quickly as possible" is when my meter (previously warmed after 30 min) is having problems because it takes more than 5 minutes or more to stabilize and display the correct value. If I turn on my meter and I try to get resistence values, It takes 5 seconds or less to stabilize. A more time waiting to warm the meter, a more time waiting to stabilize and display readings correctly.

Please let me know some comments,

best, ehm
