Nonpressure Attachment Welds According to ASME VIII, Div.1

11/06/2011 10:25 PM

All,

What are the requirements for nonpressure welds, purely for attachment purposes according to ASME VIII, Div.1? Do the welds have to be qualified/performed as per Section IX similar to the welds for the pressure retaining parts? What are the requirements for brazing for a similar application?

Just to give you an idea....I have to attached a probe inside a pressure vessel in a certain orientation. I can attach it to the wall of the pressure vessel either by welding or by brazing. So, I was wondering what are the ASME VIII, Div.1 requirements for this kind of a purely attachment weld/braze with negligible load on the weld/braze.

Thanks!

Please find at ASME DIV VIII, UW-28, and UB-31. if the welding process is not automatic welding process, all qualification is required maybe~~.

if you weld non pressure attachment to the vessel, the material you will weld must have P.NO same to the P.NO. of the material will be attached to it. this in the case of direct weld to the vessel with out suing any reinforcement pad.

if this material have no P.NO. you must prepare WPS and PQR for this material befor you weld.
