Degreaser to Remove Rust and Oil?

04/26/2007 12:40 PM

We have a process paint in that we are having peeling off problems, we found that our problem are grease & rust, some body can recommend to me some good degreaser but at same time help to eliminate rust?

Thanks.

The process to de rust parts contains a degreaser as a step. I don't know what country you are in but check to see if "Henkel" or "Quaker" are there or support that part of the world. Thaey would have the chemicals and process design you need.

Can you sand blast? We find that very effective, but can be a messy process.

I know this is going to sound funny.

A good rust remover is Tobasco sause, for heavy rusted spots and bolts that have been in place for years.

And coke works good, for light grease and oil sections.

I have always wondered what these two things were doing to my stomach knowing that they remove rust.

It's the phosphoric acid in the Coke that reduces the rust. Pure phosphoric acid in gell form is sold for use in car repair work. The steel industry has just started using very high pressure water to remove rust from sheet steel. They used to use HCl vapour before, but have found the new way cheaper and quicker. Also less poluting.

Try EVAPO-RUST. This stuff works great, and its fast. Its non-toxic, so you can dump it down the drain when you're done. Also, it will act as a rust inhibitor for 10~14 days. No scrubbing required, just let it soak for 20 min. and wash the parts. Its about $20 per gallon, but one gallon will hold 0.5 lbs of rust, so it lasts quite a while.

Try water saturated with trisodic phosphate (en español: fosfato trisodico). This solution dissolves grease easily. For rust try fosforic acid solution in water at 50% volume (one component of Coke).

lanolin is the best rust inhibitor that I have come across and is as old as the hills. We have a commercially available product containing lanolin called lanotec. It brushes on or sprays on like water and can be painted over when tack free. I have'nt experimented with a drying agent but that may workin speeding up the drying time. The Inox brand also have a product called Lanox.

That's a good idea here in blighty Lanolin is banned in just about everything because of allergic skin reaction.
