Question About Design Programs

11/12/2011 11:24 AM

I need some free software that will allow me to design something like a case (that will house a small circuit board/clock) Any software that will allow me to do that?

I've done that. I haven't been able to find any that allow me to build a 3-dimensional case... they usually have stuff for floor plans and circuits, etc, but not for a case.

I really hope this circuit with a clock isn't for a TIME BOMB!

[What are you guys thinking when giving out your answers? NUTZ!!!!!!!!! I'd be a little bit more leery about helping out some potential terrorist or T-cell, especially when such a question is posed on the NET & when you do not know with any absolute authority who the heck you're dealing with on the other side of the keyboard......call me prudish, paranoid, careful or whatever, but I side on the conservative end of things in this day and age of crazies existing throughout the world, incl. those in the USA and CA......in the end call it my former military training getting to the best of me....but I am alive, and strive to stay that way for a long long time...]

You guys? There's only me.

Sorry, your paranoia is showing through. I don't think that my answer in any way compromised national security. At no time did I provide any information that would be useful to a potential terrorists. We're talking about common CAD programs, available by the hundreds.

I spent over 10 years working on projects for the NSA, CIA, NOA and other organizations you've probably never heard of. I have a fair idea of what's classified and what's common knowledge.

Relax.

And I'd like to add something further to my previous posting....

Where are the CR4 moderators and GP in filtering this type of query in the first place? It should have been filtered out instead of being posted! The potential for damage and casualties is way too great IMO.

As the current saying goes (esp. in NYC) "IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, THEN SAY SOMETHING!"

Sorry, my 6th Sense RADAR went off on this one......

Frank,

I really don't think you are qualified to participate in this discussion as other than an outside observer. Not really sure you're qualified at all.

You've come to the forum to ask questions for others, which some might consider suspect in itself.

But, that's only my opinion. Please feel free to ignore it.

Well,

The damage is done now. If any. The OP has the source for a number of mechanical design freeware programs.

Cheers.

"Case" and 'casing' are fairly universal terms in design for any sculptured external enclosing form.

If one called it a "box", people automatically assume 'sharp edged rectangular'.

If you call it an "enclosure", they assume 'sealed'.

A clock radio, or bedside alarm, exterior moldings would be termed 'case', as are the equivalent parts of a cell phone and 100's of other articles.

In any event, "free CAD" is fairly useless for anything that is actually going to be made.

Personally, I remain more afraid of "damage done" by NY drivers

I don't remember the specifics, but I don't recall being offended by it.
