Your friend PWSlack gave you a correct answer here.

Do you want a different answer, or do you need help with the answer already given?

[edit] I see your friend lyn just gave you pretty much the same correct answer.

[edit again] I see you have now added 'steam' to you question.

[edit again, again] Tag, you're it!

A condensate pot is used to maintain a constant level in a wet leg level measuring system. The pot is mounted above the highest level eg Steam drum and the condensate fills the wet leg to the tap of level. The excess condensate drains back into the drum. Wet leg is used to protect the DP cell (pneumatic or electronic) from the steam temperature as the condensate will cool to around ambient if mounted away from ambient heat ie the steam drum itself which will be lagged (insulated)
