BSMET Degree

11/22/2011 1:41 PM

I'm looking to get a BSMET degree from trine university in indiana. My question is about the coop program. I've heard of this but need more info on it. Plus I wanted to see what if anyone knows about trine university. I know they are ABET certified, but am looking for some with a BSMET from this school to give me a review on the program.

Jake, have you reviewed the ME course requirements?

Including, but not limited to:
COMMUNICATION SKILLS 12 HRS.
ENG 103 English Composition I (3)
ENG 133 Technical Communication (3)
EGR 143 Engineering Graphics (3)
SP 203 Effective Speaking (3)

Yeah, I know you're not interested in being lectured about your communication skills. So tell me, what do you think will happen at school?

Yes I have on more than one for the bsme and the bsmet going to met with someone from the school and have them tell me a little more on what the different will be. I currently have a AAS in computer drafting and design. But I want a useful degree but I am going to do slowly because I need family time. When I got my last degree I went full time and worked full time sometimes on 4 or less hrs of sleep. So I do want this degree to more valuable.

First, please learn to communicate more effectively with proper grammar and spelling.

I don't know anything about this specific university and what it's BSMET /Co-Op requirements entail. I attended Rochester Institute of Technology for my BSCE/T in Civil/Environmental Engineering where there was a Co-Op program. Usually, an educational Co-Op program requires you to work a certain number of Quarters/Semesters at at engineering firm or a related industry employing Mechanical Engineers and Engineering Interns, usually under the guidance of a Licensed Professional Engineer, but sometimes work study is granted on a case-by-case basis if the work study is completed under the guidance of a senior design engineer who is non-licensed/registered as a PE. This is usually granted by the Dean of Engineering, but sometimes it is administered by your program Adviser, who is usually tenured Professor in the School of Engineering. All of this actually depends on the specific university.

Before committing to this specific university, you should do the following:

A. Visit the university's website and learn as much as you can about their program, the curriculum requirements, and the Co-Op Education program requirements.

B. Discuss the program with your current Adviser at the junior college or community college that you're attending now (you mentioned an AAS program?).

C. Telephone the university and talk to the Dean of Mechanical Engineering. Schedule an appointment to visit with him/her.

You need to do a lot of leg work.....

CaptMoosie gave you good advice, I live 45 minutes south of Trine U, its in far Northeast Indiana in the small town of Angola, nice area, the cost of living is very reasonable, in the summer the lakes are a huge attraction with in 15 to 20 minutes of Trine.
