baby car seat

11/23/2011 11:32 PM

My grand son is 5 months old & perfectly healthy child.

He has peculiar scare/aversion? of car seat when only placed in the car .He cries with full volume till the destination is reached & he is moved from the car seat.

The same car seat he enjoys at home.

What could be reasoning for this?Is it possible to redesign special type of car seat like baby walker where child can occasionally stand & watch around.Whether concern authority will accept new design or give exemption for car seat as special case. The VDO of his crying can be submitted for no of days.

Any suggestions ?

What happens if you strap him in the seat "at home"?

It might also be the strapping is over tight causing discomfort.

It might also be where and how the seat is fitted - too upright, or no vision, or no foot support, through to lack of company/can't see you, or similar.

More information?

I read this and pictured your grandson driving the car to the destination himself, no wonder he is always scared!

It sounds as if the automobile is the cause of unhappiness for the child.

Perhaps a few sessions of play or snacks in the car, without going anywhere, will help. No car seat, don't start the car... let the child sit in the front seat, fiddle with the radio buttons and beep the horn... have a box of animal cookies and a cup of milk... just a short session, 10 minutes or so. No brothers, sisters, or pets for distraction; this is alone time for this particular child.

Over the next few days, try again with successively longer sessions and different diversions. Make the car a pleasant and fun place to be.

I will invoice your CR4 account accordingly. If it doesn't help, you may disregard the invoice. Let us know if this actually works, and we can all be surprised.

When I had to get rid of my old car, the only car my 3 year ever knew, he would not get in the new one without a fight. Even after I was able to get him seated he would cry and scream that he wanted my old car back. He was afraid of change. I got him a keychain with a little plastic figure on it and told him it was his own key for the new car. I took him for short rides, just a few houses down the street and back, at first. later we went around the block. As long as he had his "key" he was fine. Maybe your grandson needs something else to occupy his thoughts while you are driving.?

When I was younger, I also refused to ride in a Ford.

Is it the riding sensations that he does not like? Could moving the car seat to the other side of the vehicle help? I will guess that at 5Months old, his seat faces the back. Could the lack of vision be his complaint? Perhaps a picture for him to look at would help. Good luck.

Approval for car seats is one of tougher things to get approval for. I'm sure crash tests would be required.
