Seek Help In Mechanical Design

12/07/2011 2:17 AM

Fellow Engineers,

Am planning to build a Small Space Furniture at my home.. I need to make my bed to move into the wall, so, could You please suggest me, what mechanical system should I use here.

In My idea, Use of string and pulley system, but, not sure how the exact design would be.

PS: The design would be used by My age old parents, so it should very much smooth while moving.

With Regards,

Chakri...

A bed that hinges up with the hinges on the long side of the bed works well, but it may need counterballance or spring assistance.
I made one years ago in my son's bedroom, one long edge was hinged to the wall and two legs just swung down under their own weight as the bed was lowered. When it was in the up position there was a shelf just abov it which had a simple drop latch to secure the bed.

Hi ChakriGurnath,

Welcome to CR4. You may not only get some help, but sometimes some humor too.

"My idea, Use of string and pulley system"

String theory doesn't apply here, but maybe you can tunnel it in.
