Electrical Tower Calculation

12/16/2011 6:54 AM

I am doing a design for a tower at 132kv switch yard .

I that need to consider the Tension of the conductor , but i don't know how to calculate it .

I would kindly appriciate your valuable reply , stating how to calculate it and what are the other factor to be considered .

Dear,

You may have to refer to the Design hand book for the same.

You have to consider the SAG permissible for particular size of conductor.

Then Bending stresses on the Tower - Max. Wind Velocity / etc.. should be consider

Then, accordingly, Foundation design shall be finalised

A couple of replies referred to sag-tension tables. Check them. They probably use the catenary calculations/equations. You probably need such data as sag, weight per foot of the cable (bare and iced), the span, and maybe others.

I used to design single shaft towers for high voltage electric cables. In a tangent (straight thru) suspension connection, the load on the support is transverse (wind, wind on iced cable, etc) and vertical (cable weight, ice, etc. When there is a line angle, you will also get load from the line tension. There is much more involved, of course. We usually got the tension info from the electric utility, so did not really do these calculations.
