48" Pipe to 72" Header

12/24/2011 2:22 AM

In one of the branches I have a 48" pipe is being connected 72" pipe. The 72" pipe is spiral and at the joint there is a seam.

Is it allowed by ASME standard?

If it allowed, what is the precedure?

Thank you.....

You may not expect a seamless pipe for sizes like 48" & 72" unless for extremely critical applications. Once it is a seam, whether spiral welded or straight ERW, it's but natural that the joint will have a seam on either of the pipe.

What material are you conveying? Density? Toxicity?

Is it water or a similar fluid?

Is it hvac?

What material are your pipes? Steel? Sheetmetal?

Are they going to be buried? Or hang in the air?

What Code do they have to meet?
