Proximity Device Needed

I am looking for any one that has info on a device or kit that will enable me to have a small device that senses a companion device and whether the device is with in say 25 feet of the receiver.

Simply to alert if the companion device leaves the 25ft circle area.

Seems simple but I can not seem to find one.

Let me know if you know about this technology or know of a device.

JUST WHAT I WANTED . WITH SOME SMALL MODIFYING WILL WORK GREAT!!

I wish I could find a kit to use so I could modify easier any one know of a kit like this ?

how about those scanners they use to look for electronic bugs or camera ? high frequency bug and wireless camera detectors should find anything that broadcast it's position around you works up to 10 meters

Geo fencing through Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) is the technique to be used.

It has to have some intelligence beyond a signal intensity which could easily false trigger.

Lyn's link looks like the stuff. Also check the capabilities of Ekahau

OP doesn't state the environment for the application.

Why not use RFID tags. Small, easy to attach to the companion device. Each tag can have a separate identity so you can check on individual several companion devices at once. UHF long range antenna are readily available in the 0-10m (about 32ft) range. Google RF Tags

In or out of range not where within the range. It won't be able to discriminate between 24' or 26' for example.
