Deytz 1011F

01/09/2012 9:29 AM

Hello,

I have a DEYTZ 1011f engine in roller vibrator bomag.

The engine has reabuild 3 years ago and recently has positoned in a vibrator roller.

The problem is that engine is consuming a big amount of oil(1-2l) every 3-4 days of work.

Engine is air cooled.

Does anybody have an idea about that??

Did the engine consume excessive oil before being "positioned"?

Is it burning oil through the exhaust?

Being air cooled, it the engine getting adequate cooling air circulation?

Is the 'vibrator roller" a greater load than the "bomag"?

If the excessive consumption started after being "positioned", I am thinking a problem related to insufficient air circulation (cooling) or greater load demand.

I go with you. Check the rubber on the valve stems.

I had such a Magirus Deutz in my small excavator and it ran 25,000 hours.

The guides and rubbers are the first problems and when the guides have not been replaced or the play is too high, that is where the oil escapes. You can check this when you remove the valve covers. If there is excessive oil and carbon deposit in this area follow Pmoon's advice.

What kind of oil do you use? You can try some higher viscosity oil.

What is the color of the smoke?

A compression test for the cylinders is the next step.

Has it ever been used since rebuild in another application? Intake valve guides? Crankcase breather valve? Tilted position? Excess vibration?

The first thing I'd check is the crankcase vent

Than I'd do cylinder leakdown pressure test, looking for a broken ring.

These are quick and will answer or eleminate the most common causes.

good luck

That doesn't sound too bad if the machine is making money for you.

You seem concerned. Are you worried that this may be a portend of imminent failure without notice? Other respondents have made some suggestions and asked for clarification to assist diagnosis....

Your concern may not be warranted.

Some underloaded diesel engines will consume excessive lubricant. Even brand new ones. I've personally experienced this with Perkins engines.

When operating at light loading the engine temperature is on the low side, tolerances open up and cylinder wall glazing messes things up a bit.

Did you follow the correct running in procedure for the newly rebuilt engine?

The good thing about the high oil consumption is that you , or somebody, is actually checking the oil level. Chances are you won't run out of oil if you are wary. You are being prompted to care. Nicely diluted with fresh oil... that engine is well pampered.

As it appears to be a Deutz engine of which I am somewhat familiar is it turbocharged? If so the turbo could be leaking the lube into the intake. Of course all the answers mentioned common oil burning components. A deutz that burns oil will soon plug the exhaust ports and other components so try to find the cause and correct.

When the engine was rebuilt, were the cylinders resurfaced with the new rings? were there new pistons? If not, the "glaze" must be broken to allow the new rings to seat properly. I am not familiar with this engine, but this is a common technique, often left undone.
