Iam Mr.Venkatesh Badagandi, working in a company called as Biogreen Energy Systems (p) limited in Pune City,India. We are in to cogeneration power plants. We package steam Turbines.Often i come across types of boilers where in we are required to understand the functioning and charectersitcs of existing boilers of our customers. In order to understand the power cost per unit we need to understand the type of boiler and its fuel requirement and fuel cost.In this context i had requested the forum to help me in understanding Fluidized Bed Boilers
The idea is to suspend the fuel in a column of fast ring air so as to maximise the combustion process, also this produces a more even burn of the fuel and a greater heat out put per ton of fuel burned. This also reduces part burned gases in the main chimney stacks. It forces the hot gases up the stack under pressure.

From memory they use a large bed over whitch pulverised coal is spread then air is blown up to mix with the coal dust and it is burnt. This technology goes back to the mid 1960's when the English electrical generating industry was looking into new boiler heating techniques. It never got taken up because the people who supported the idea did not get any finacial support from the old boys. It is upto 20% better at burning coal than the normal methods. I expect some one will crawl out of the wood work and dispute this but there I go stiring the pot.
