Access Control System- Card Reader to Controller

01/14/2012 12:30 PM

I'll really appreciate anyone of you here who has experience on this.

I was on the internet searching for a Card reader that has already a auxiliary relay output NC and NO. What could be the reason I couldnt find one. All are in wiegand output to controller then controller to discrete output (1, 0)

Anyone of you here already designed a system once-in your home?

I opt to discard actually the controller if card reader has already contact output on it. I just design instead a low cost relay interfaced for the doors locks.

Search for systems that are "one door" systems .. there are a few single door systems that have on board relays, but you're right they are harder to find.. why? they cost more to make and fewer are sold.. I hope that helps.

IEI offers several keypads, and key fob & prox. pad as well as well as cards to work in the system you requested.KERI Systems also offers multiple components of similar style. there are several other manufactures that offer a wide range of systems to fit your requirements. You might try Security Equipment Sales or Allied Sales they both have numerous items you are asking for.

The reader is a communications device that alerts the controller who is at the door.

The controller then decides whether the door should be opened and communicates with the lock.

If all of this is done at the reader then it is too easy to sprag the contacts locally to unlock the door.

It's all about layers of security.

You need to find a card reader which also validates. Ok for a small, low security, setup without remote monitoring requirements.

With local validation you have no more security or convenience than a physical key.

Have you considered using a padlock?

Hi,

I just made a boom gate system recently using a biometric fingerprint reader, my first option was a RFID card reader but I found it a bit expensive for the application so I bought this device off Amazon. It has relay outputs, RJ-45, Ethernet, etc. It comes with various software that can be linked to a computer for a time card, entry/exit log, etc. You can connect door latches to it and the likes, and it can be used as a stand-alone unit. Here is the link, hope it helps.

Everyone is correct so far, in particular Wal with "It's all about layers of security."

Readers generally have a separate controller, and these are much more secure than the devices that read and control on-board.

As far as finding one, a 'secret code' type device with an on-board contact is very common. These are the lowest on the access control pyramid, but are very common for household use.

There is also a proximity reader that can be concealed behind the wall and no possible way of defeating from the panel on the wall since there is nothing on the outside to defeat
