Your question is extremely vague. Is this professional or personal?

Professional: You need to get a structural/civil engineer to address the problem and it will depend on the ground conditions (sulphate content etc), the strength of concrete required, the workability of the concrete etc

Personal: If you are not worried about any of the above and its just for the one storey garage around the back of the house, then the mix is about 8 shovels of gravelly sand mixed with about 6 shovels of cement (all this before adding water as a dryish mix since the sand has some water in it), then add water till the mix is a little bit sloppy (not too sloppy) then add a few more shovels of sand till the colour looks right and the mix has the right amount of flow. Experience is the key.

"Solidifying" concrete is a chemical reaction. Look in inorganic chemistry texts, Google and the like under Portland Cement, etc.

"Solidifying concrete". Did you mean a mortar concrete?

Well, if my guess is right. I say Concrete is made from 3 major components:

1. Cement

2. Water

3. Aggregates ( Coarse and Fine)

Cement are of various types. The type you use depends on the nature of soil of the construction site, the working and dead load on the structure you are building( Engineer's calculation), if the site is water logged or not, Level of cement bonding inhibitors in the water sample, etc. Other criteria is best decided by civil engineer.

Aggregates act as in-fill in the concrete mix i.e Coarse and Fine particle sands. The strength of the concrete you desire is arrived at with the appropriate ratio of aggregates and the cement i.e 1:3:6 mix, 1:2:4 mix and there are also several other mix for a wide range of concrete strength ( A civil engineer would be able to help in this area)

I am sorry that I can not help out with a website to address your issue. But you could search for lots of educational website on concrete.

Thanks.
