The Arctic may be ice free by 2105

08/23/2005 2:37 PM

In a new report on global warming it has been announced that the Arctic, if trends continue, will be ice free by 2105. As more ice melts more darker surfaces will be exposed and transmit more heat that will melt more ice.

From LiveScience: But the effects will reach much farther than that – the melted ice will cause sea levels to rise worldwide, flooding the coastal areas where many of the world's people live. Melting ice has already drastically impacted the indigenous people and animals of parts of Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Russia, and Scandinavia.

Looks like a good time to divest yourself of some seashore property.

I think nothing can stop it now

I'm interested to know what happens after the ice caps melt. How quickly will the average global temperature rise? What will happen to the ocean currents and global weather patterns? I guess we just wait and we'll find out.

The Arctic may be ice free by 2015?

I'm much relieved the 2015 date in the title here was just a typo...
