Belated Vanlentine's Day - First kisses: How We Learned To Lock Lips

My gut tells me that since there are many mammals that lick their young, I would suspect that to be more the root of kissing. It is often a tender "look" on the mother's face as she grooms her young. People probably got the idea that using your tongue and lips to convey similar feelings was worth a try.

Rather than start another thread, here is an allied topic from the same source.

Why Did I Comment Here? Technique

This might have waited until 6 July.

Naw, kissin' is just a form of our primal instinct to lick the face of another, looking for scraps of food.

The woman I live with DOES NOT like it when I do that to her.

Would a French Kiss be a form of our primal instinct to stick the tongue in the mouth of another, looking for...plaque?

I shudder to think of the possibilites... the license it could grant to, otherwise, shy people. Have your eye on that beautiful stranger you pass every day going to work or lunch?? Now you can blame the holiday for your fanciful behavior.

Food? Really? This would explain the marketing of flavored underwear.

Or could it be, that after the advent of the Missionary Position, we do it so we wouldn't be looking at the other's oddly contorting face? Or listen to all that hollering?
