ASME or ANSI Standards for Architectural Fixtures?

05/04/2007 11:20 AM

Does anybody know if there are any ASME or ANSI standards for Architectural fixtures (i.e, doorknobs, levers, hinges, etc)? If so, it would be greatly appreciated if you can tell me where I can get this information. Thanks!!!

Well, carcru, you can be sure there would be some standards about some aspects of door furniture in ASME, ANSI and if you are allowed to graduate from US standards to those of AS/NZS, ISO or EWN, try them.

You should already know that GlobalSpec has a Standards search area.... commercially, SAIGlobal can provide access to any standard known to God and man ....

There are few standards in regards to the attachment of the hardware to doors. The retaining screw hole pattern is up to each manufacture. Though some make them interchangeable. Screw hole pattern on hinges are the same way. Even the door manufacture my have some say in the screw hole pattern. Special application in which the pattern was changed to in sure a lasting product. Even the location of the door knob distance off the edge of the door changes do to the hardware. Most hardware companies will have several latches that will move the knob say 10 mm increments farther from the edge. Placement vertically on the door is up to door manufacture. There is a general height to the center of the knob of about 39.5 inches.
