A Drip Ring (also called Bleed Rings) as shown on the link by the previous answer is used to add or install items in pipe systems where the primary material is difficult to make small branches.

The branches would include Vents, Drains, Injection Points, Pressure Instruments, Temperature Instruments, Steam Trap line, and other small secondary flow paths.

The pipe materials that might require the use of "Drip Rings" include:

- Glass Pipe

- Lined Pipe (Glass, Plastic, Cement, etc)

- FRP Pipe (Fibreglass)

- Exotic Metals (Titanium, etc)

Drip Rings are not normally used or required on piping systems constructed of Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel and most common alloys however Drip Rings are a good thing to remember because someday, somewhere, when you least expect it you will need one.

Drip Rings (sometimes known as Flushing Rings) are commonly used in piping for instrument applications where plugging or chocking occurs frequently due to solidification of the flued in the tappings and where flushing is needed for removing chocking etc.
