Bulk Solids Texts

02/27/2012 6:54 PM

I'm looking for a reliable hard copy text that deals with the design of hoppers for bulk solids, discharge and loading of hoppers, angle of repose, bulk density and other bulk solid characteristics. I have found dozens on the net, but am unwilling to put money on something unless it's precisely what I want. I would prefer the text to start from the base level, a university textbook would be perfect for my use. I studied these subjects in Uni, however we were not perscribed texts and I need something more reliable than Uni notes if I'm going to use it for design purposes.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

Solids is not my strength, but you may want to take a look at Powders and Bulk Solids: Behavior, Characterization, Storage and Flow by Schulze. On Amazon.com you can preview some of it. Jenike and Janssen were early researchers on solids handling, so any textbook should refer to them. Jenike published several papers, but I don't know if they are obtainable. You may want to subscribe to the Jenike and Johanson firm's free newsletter, as well.

In the meantime, here's an interesting little article:
