Programing Phone System

02/28/2012 10:19 AM

We have a Norstar Plus phone system by Nortel in our plant. The front cover also says "Meridian". When it was originally put in, one button on one extension was programed to trap line one of the CO lines. It would then dial *72 and a 7 digit phone number to forward that line to the answering service. To put on answering service the key stroke series was: use only that extension, push the button labeled "Call Fwd" Dial "654" on the screen "OK" would show under one of the top keys, Push "OK". To take off service just push the "Call Fwd" button.

We had a power spike that destroyed the phone system and it had to be replaced. No body can figure out how to re-install this feature. (We cannot find the phone man that originally programed the system.)

Ant ideas? Thanks -- JHF

Nortel networks filed for bankruptcy quite awhile ago. It was an enormous scandal in Canada. I believe the US division was acquired by Avaya. I have no idea what support you are entitled to.

Good Luck

If you had the system replaced...where is the "phone man" who replaced it?

Recruit some 13 year old kid and tell him you'll buy him a new video game for his troubles.

Tongue only partly in cheek.

We have a Northstar Meridian phone system at work from 1995.

So you are pressing a button on the phone to forward an "on hold" incoming call to an external 7 digit number?

Our phone company requires an additional feature be subscribed to to do transfers of outside calls.

Also it may be locked down in programming as their have been misuses of this feature.

I will look for more on this in the manual if I can.

Thanks. Yes, On the phone that rings for CO Line 1, we have button labeled "Call Fwd". We push that button and dial 654. One of the soft keys then says "OK" we push that. Line one is then forwarded to the answering service by the phone company's call forward system, which we have and is working on line 1. To undo the call forward, we just push "Call Fwd". Since we can't seem to get anyone to figure out how to program this, we have a single line phone wired in ahead of the Meridian system that we manually dial the *72 XXX XXXX to put it on service. That is why I say the phone company call forward works. Thanks Again -- JHF

Locate the installation and programming manual. The answers are in there.
