33kV/11kV Potential Transformers

03/12/2012 1:18 PM

sir,

if both 33kv/110v and 11kv/110v potential transformers have 110 volts at thier secondary terminals.then cant we use 33kv/110v pt in 11kv energy meters 4 measuring energy as this meter z working at 110 volts and 11kv or 33kv doesnot even reach 2 it

To measure power one needs voltage, current and power factor. Are you saying "we" only have one of these three measurements available? If so, then "we" can't do it, Boss. "We" need more equipment.

Have "we" tried talking to high voltage equipment suppliers for advice? Is this "our" first installation, a problem with "our" existing equipment, or a study for "our" examination paper?

Let me ask you a question to answer your question, will the energy meter accurately measure power if the input voltage is a third of what it is expecting?

PT secondary voltages (110)will remain same for 33kV primary or 11 kV primary. Same mistake in understanding ; )

it z not 33kv or 11kv reaching energy meters but it z d secondary voltage, which z 110 volts in both d cases,

You will not get 110V out of a 33kV/110V operating on 11kV.

Perhaps there is a language barrier problem here, based on your previous questions on CR4 and your CR4 Biography you are an engineer working in the power industry and hence you already know this.

Can you elaborate on your question and perhaps phrase it more clearly.

Firstly, I am assuming you use this 110V for meter's auxiliary supply.

Secondly, I would say this is not common practise.

However, TEMPORARY you can use this 110V to energise your meter in condition the phase and voltage level (e.g single phase 110VDC) meet the requirement.

Other protection for your meter shall take into account.

No. You have to consider back emf, magnetic characteristics voltages developed due to single phase operation.. Importantly the 33kv/110V PT will not work accurately. 11 kV bus line into 33kv primary winding which was designed to output 110V FROM 33kV and not 11kV.
