There isn't much to learn about the audit process. You simply examine the specifications on everything that is connected to your power distribution system.
Understanding your power distribution system, however, may take some training.
Most devices have rating requirements posted on tags that are attached to them. While power factor is not part of that tag, the Volts and Amps usually are included. You can add up the current ratings for a particular branch of the power feed, and them multiply by the applied voltage to get a raw number called the VA. If the number is divided by 1000 then the result is KVA. If the power factor is a perfect 1.0 then 1 KVA = 1 KW. When you include your power factor your X KW usage = PF*Y KVA.
Depending on the purpose of your audit, you might skip the PF concern, especially if you are just interested in a load study or layout. Good luck with your survey.
