Drying Coco Peat and Coil

03/13/2012 11:19 AM

Hi,

I have tried searching in this website about the most economical way of drying coco peat and coco coil but to no avail. Is there any advise on this? BTW, this is targeted to help farmers in the South East Asia region.

Thank you very much,

WT

You really need to do pilot-scale trials.

Coco peat = Coir dust normally contains up to 90% moisture and it sshould be reduced at least down to 22/20% .in most cases this is done under the sun - open air- using solar radiation. RH , sun light and the wind velosity are the main three factors determin the speed of th eprocess. most suitable layer thickness is 50/100mm and by mixing/turning the layer expidite the process by 60-100%.

if any one can provide transparent roof canopy over the layed coco pith it will enable you to do the drying through out the year even in rainy days.

can use drying machine consisting electrical blovers and thermal heat generated by saw dust burners which cost from USD 60,000 depending on the capacity
