Drag Coefficient for Plate Perpendicular to Airflow

03/26/2012 11:20 PM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drag_coefficient

from wikipedia, it is written 1.98-2.05 for flat plate perpendicular to flow(2D) , but I have a differrent b/h ratio plate, where h=157mm and b=816mm , b/h=5.197

how to get the drag coefficient in this case?

Thanks.

Hi, cxcxcx0505,

The formula for drag coeffecient (Cd) is D/(0.5 * rhoe * V^2 * A) where D is the drag force, A is the frontal area rhoe is the density and V is the velocity. From the data, you have given, you can calculate the frontal area. But you need to know the values of D, rhoe and V to calculate Cd.

Then the other parameters must be given..or else you have to find out them in order to calculate the Cd and hence calculate D.

V=25 m/s

A=0.128112 m²

ρ=1.21534

then?

Here you need to take Cd as 1.98.
