"Kutztown 13" punishment severly reduced

08/26/2005 10:10 AM

A few weeks ago, we reported on the "Kutztown 13", a group of high school students who were arrested on felony computer trespass and computer theft charges; charges that hardly fit the crime. In a follow-up, a deal has been offered which dramatically reduces the penalties to:

15 hours of community service
A letter of apology
A class on personal responsibility
A few months of probation

Some of the students may reject these "slap on the wrist" punishments feeling that they have done nothing wrong.

My advice, take the deal and put it behind you. While the felony charges were harsh, the students did violate a number of agreements relative to the use of the school computer system. There is no great "principle" here to fight for. Take the deal and walk away.

Ah Kutztown

Having attend Kutztown Univeristy and after dating a few of the town-ies, I can understand the insane boredom that comes with the little speck of land between Allentown and Reading, but even with all the hijinks (yes I said hijinks) I was not dumb enough to get caught, the hard learned lessons are the best remebered. But all in all they are kids, give them a break, one more mess up and hang em :D
