Is Automobile Engine Suitable for Standby Generator?

In India standby power demand is increasing. To mitigate the power demand many players foreign and national make standby diesel generator.But, some players are orginally from passenger and commercial vehicle manufacturer segment and they use automobile engine with some modification. Could we rely on this type of diesel generator?

Sure.........................but you still need the generator section to hook up to the engine. And fuel.

In addition to the alternator and its control system you will also need a governor to maintain the speed/frequency as the electrical load varies.

So what is that, an 80HP engine? Running a 10kW alternator? Yeah, that's efficiecy for ya...

I didn't really put much thought into it. Just pulled it up to show that a car engine could run a generator. I would imagine that a diesel engine, configured properly, could power up an entire small village.
