Make sure you have good original content that people want to read.

"Helllo world" is too obvious. An 'in gag' that will go nowhere is worth a punt. You have two choices : an outstandingly rude, yet funny, phrase that wont get pulled, or just plain absract ('my pet armadillo has taken to eating baked beans').

Post interesting and original content users will find useful. Content not easily found elsewhere. Post often and regularly. Avoid black hat SEO subterfuges. Use relevant tags. Craft proper titles. Dont forget that pictures are findable content too. Be patient. Worry less about page rank and more about providing audience with the good stuff and page rank will come. I don't know my page rank, but know my views and that i have hundreds of topics that show up on Google page 1 or 2.Milo

Excellent ansewr, Milo. About all I can add is to check that the website shows in different browsers. There is the rather dubious business of cross-linking to other websites but, on balance, good quality content that is frequently updated will do more for a sites reputation.

The linkfarming that you describe is Black hat technique that wil get you blacklisted by MR Google almost immediately.

The real secret is credibility or trust, which is created as you and I have described. Blow trust and you may find that the Search engine won't find your site at all.
