question about shore hardness of graphite

04/26/2012 10:54 PM

I'm a rookie in Carbon industry, would anyone like to explain what defines the shore hardness of a piece of isostatic graphite material? Is the binder pattern an important element?

Many thanks.

Resistance to indention/penetration of the probe determines Shore hardness.

Since one normally makes a number of probes and averages the value, no, binder pattern should not matter.

I'm also not sure that Shore hardness is a proper test for a solid, non-elastomeric (flexible) material.
