Dual OS Safe Mode Loop

05/03/2012 8:30 AM

I was already dealing with turn on delay of CPU in here.Today the dual OS (LINUX and WinXP) become a loop. When turn ON windows ask safe mode or normal. When enter normal it jump back to Linux option of selecting windows. It ask again in windows boot window safe mode or normal again back to linux option. I want to turn ON normally without any safe mode.Is there any combination buttons?

I had a similar problem after I installed a service pack for XP, it ended up being a problem with the registry. To fix my (and potentially your) problem, I opened up the command prompt (start -> Run) and typed "regedit.exe" (without the quotes) and found HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Intelppm4

There, on the right hand side, there is an entry that says "Start" that you can modify by right clicking it. There should be a value data box, and I just replaced the 1 with a 4. I just accepted the changes and rebooted the computer, and it worked fine.

I wonder if it's an issue with your boot loader..

If you have the XP installation CD, you can boot into that, then opt to repair/recover, which will bring you to a command line in which you can enter:

fixboot
fixmbr
exit

Otherwise, I'd say it's an issue with a driver or perhaps you've picked up some Malware? Maybe someone else has an opinion on it

Try selecting the "safe mode" boot, and let it successfully complete a safe-mode boot if it will. Then shut down via the normal "start", "shut-down" sequence. Once a successful boot has occurred, it will no longer be trying to recover from an "abnormal" boot attempt. The reason for forcing the user to select "safe mode" boot is that Windows detected (rightfully so, or not), that a previous boot attempt was unsuccessful, and in an attempt to have a "clean" boot-up, it's offering the safe-mode option, where many of the things that can cause boot problems are not loaded. You can also run some diagnostics in safe-mode, if it will boot into that without problems (such as the check disk routine, or an AV scan).

Well appreciate your attempt. The problem is LOOP formed between linux and XP.No matter whatever option i try in windows boot menu,it jump back to linux graphical interference where i have a default windows boot option and linux. When timer count down it try default but jumping back to origin.

This interface is not linux, it's "grub" and it's a bootloader. If you can boot into linux, open a console and run "sudo update-grub" (linux will ask for your root password). If you still can't boot windows after that it's bad news. S.M.

It's grub not gurb, from something like "GRand Unified Bootloader" S.M.

In google I got how to remove grub.Unfortunately did it. Under boot window when i press F5 there was an option to "disable restart on system failue" Got this UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME Technical information *** STOP: OxOOOOOOED (Ox8A542CO8,OxCOOOOOO6,OxOOOOOOOO,OxOOOOOOOO) in blue screen. made a search again and found a "disk check r" with windows install CD might help. Tried and succeeded. Thank you everybody for sparing your valueable time with me. Technical information always wins even though boot window suggested many other assumptions like unsafe turnoff, fail safe boot in BIOS etc.
