Welding Gas Pipe

05/15/2012 2:34 PM

Anybody have absolute Gas evacuation techniques for gas pipe prior to welding. I've welded liquid gas before. And I understand nitrogen is used in some cases. Lots to be considered, seams, cracks, gas obsorbtion in pipe pores etc. Please anybody shed some more light..Not welding anything yet, want to hear what you guys have to say..

Thank you all for your time.

One word. INERT! Now, go forth and evacuate. Don't forget to read up on local regs for hydro testing. Here's what Wiki has to say. You can wiki too.

The safest method, in terms of avoiding explosion, is to keep a few ounces of gas pressure on the line, light a fire at the crack, and weld it up. If it is burning, it cannot blow up! If you need experts, call Pipeliner's Local 798 in Tulsa Oklahoma.

I am a zealot that has done this job before. Charge the system with argon using a nylon tube or just plain flooding. However uless there is oxygen in the pipe it cant explode or burn.
