Ants and Air Filters

05/11/2007 2:25 PM

A bout three months ago I bought some spare parts to service my faithful pick-up truck. Then I got very busy with a few big jobs and didn't get around to do the service until yesterday. All went well and I was glad to see that the oil and air filter was not that dirty as I expected. Now the new air filter was sealed in a box and all the time it was standing in my shop on top of a shelf. Great was my surprise (and grief) when I opened the seal and out came hundreds of ants carrying small ant eggs. The new air filter became a nursing facility for a nearby ant colony. There were no sand or mud carried into the "nest" neither did they do any harm to the paper filter material.

I thought ants were not lazy... they seem to be very opportunistic. Another modern device they use is man-made "free ways" If there is a fence wire around, why struggle over pebbles and grass on the ground?

I wonder if in a few thousand years how that generations of ants will use man-made structures in stead of building a nest of their own.. Is this part of evolution?

Now here is another thought... I did some reading on anti matter... For every particle there is an anti-particle... For every filter there can be an antee-filter if you don't service your vehicle soon enough!
